The session is dedicated to the prevailing policy and governance issues in risk management from a strategic and operative perspective. In the light of vertiginously proceeding global changes a strong safety and risk culture seizes hold of the society and stimulates the demand for new approaches and models to govern and treat risks of natural catastrophes. Risk governance aims at the strengthening of societal resilience and fosters regional stakeholder cooperation in coping with residual risks when governmental structures and management tools reach its limits (or even fail). The submitted contributions will open up new vistas to a vivid evolution of good practice in risk governance and give a comprehensive overview of the most important policy topics.
